It’s not every day you get to incorporate mermaids into your portfolio— not to mention a real-life product. I had the opportunity to brand a prenatal vitamin from scratch. The goal? Make a prenatal vitamin that’s a black pill, easier to swallow (figuratively) for a target audience of free-spirited moms-to-be in their mid-20s and 30s. The solution? Make it mermaid.

The black pearl symbolizes fertility and eternal love, making it the perfect name for a prenatal vitamin. Mermaids are also symbols of fertility, but also of femininity, magic, and wonder. I wanted new mothers to know that motherhood doesn’t have to mean losing yourself— it should mean keeping and nourishing your inner mermaid. To make this ethereal brand stand out even more amongst competitors, I pitched developing iridescent packaging for the vitamin, and just-as-magical copy to match.
